While the golfers continue to hack their way through beautiful Winged Foot Golf Club (I'll upload photos from a practice round later ... probably Monday), the care and feeding of LoHud.com/open has become much more manageable so far today.

The photo galleries are mostly on autopilot, the updates pseudo-blog is humming along so well that the sports desk is training people all on their own, and after a morning of fiddling and futzing, the leaderboards and player scorecards have finally rounded into shape.

Almost everything about the site came out as I imagined it (after my original mockup got shot down and/or ignored ... not sure which and don't care much; I got over it very quickly) and it's missing only a few features—most notably, a lack of related stories on the individual player bio pages (time and technical constraints forced me to abandon this idea).

Meanwhile, some things came out much better than I had imagined. The leaderboards and scoreboards, for example, turned out better than I had originally planned them. I find myself wishing the leaderboard refreshed on its own (perhaps something AJAX-y), but the favorites functionality works great and I think it came out a little better than the site we based it off of.

The true blogs (The Fairway and The Gallery) also turned out better-looking than I thought I would have time to make them. It's almost a shame, however, that they are both short-term, event-driven blogs that will likely end up with small traffic and few comments.

I'm really very proud of this site right now and I'm hoping against hope that everything holds up through the weekend ...

Then I can finally sleep on Sunday.
